Cloud Management for Your Enterprise

Manage more servers in less time. Advanced cloud computing management and server administration made easy.

We Know Infrastructure

That's why we've simplified the most common and important tasks that our customers need to perform. Our powerful built-in cloud computing management, automation, and orchestration capabilities help keep your business running smoothly while significantly reducing your operational burden. In fact, CenturyLink Cloud is just as easy to manage whether you have one cloud server or 100. That means our solution not only scales for your business, it also scales around your most valuable resource — your people.

Server management is a critical function often just bolted on to a cloud platform. But not with the CenturyLink Cloud. Cloud management permeates our entire platform and is front-and-center in our Control Portal. System administrators have all the tools needed to easily manage servers, getting more done in less time. Platform users can also choose to perform the same cloud management operations through a comprehensive web service API. We're among the first in the industry to offer complete account, user, and billing management operations as part of our cloud management features.

Account Management: Creating IT-as-a-Service with Chargebacks

Our Account Management capabilities are designed to meet the needs of today’s complex business environments. We make it easy to define a master "parent" account and then spin up independent sub-accounts that are managed and billed separately. Create users, define permissions, and select payment methods for each account and sub-account. See total charges from the parent account while delivering targeted invoices to each sub-account holder — whether those sub-accounts belong to your customers or different departments within an enterprise.

Group Actions

There's no need to waste time manually powering or configuring individual servers. CenturyLink Cloud lets you create logical Groups of servers, and provides the ability to reboot every server in a Group with a single command. You can even execute a PowerShell script that disables a Windows Service on a dozen servers at once. Groups support a full range of power cycle activities and let you archive, snapshot, or install software across any and all servers in a Group. This cloud management capability saves time, reduces the opportunity for human error, and empowers enterprises to spend more time optimizing their cloud, and less time configuring it.

Performance monitoring is critical for effective cloud computing management

Monitoring and Reporting

Performance monitoring is a fundamental element of cloud computing management. But you'll never have to wonder about the performance and health of your CenturyLink Cloud servers because our comprehensive cloud monitoring and reporting across memory, CPU, disk usage, and server performance at the Group level will always keep you up to date. And while alert thresholds are set at the top Group level and then inherited, they can be easily overridden by administrators for any lower level as needed to meet unique alert requirements. Additional system reporting provides insight into support events, ticketing, and hourly and predicted monthly costs.

Scheduled Tasks

Set scheduled tasks across Groups and individual servers for routine server functions to streamline environment administration. This minimizes manual cloud management oversight and busy work, allowing your IT staff to focus on activities that add real value.

Define default server configurations to match your typical organizational needs.

Resource Governance

Our cloud management features allow you to define default server configurations that match your typical organizational or client needs. This means you can set up preferred storage amount, operating system, CPU, and memory for servers added to any Group. You can also determine Group-level allocation limits to ensure that users don’t overprovision servers and create unexpected usage charges. Governance controls encourage enterprises to set up Groups for each department and empower them to define the capacity limits that match their individual needs and budget.

Runner

Runner facilitates management and automation of workflows and infrastructure, wherever that infrastructure resides. Virtual servers on CenturyLink Public Cloud, other public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure and others, and private clouds as well as and on-premises devices and servers in remote data centers can all be easily managed via Runner. As hybrid IT solutions continue to gain momentum, so does the demand for tools like Runner to remove the complexity and time-drain of managing them.

One-click provisioning allows you to create jobs via the Runner dashboard and easily rerun them with a simple click. Or you can simply search our Marketplace for jobs that meet your needs, click the run button and Runner does the rest.

Runner manages and automates workflows and infrastructure, wherever it is.

Blueprints provide cloud management through orchestration.

Blueprints

On the CenturyLink Cloud Platform, Blueprints are designed to solve some of the most common challenges of deploying new cloud environments. A powerful cloud management tool, Blueprints facilitate building and deploying complex environments as well as automating repetitive tasks. There’s an ever-growing list of available Blueprints from leading Partners, in addition to Blueprints authored by and shared within the community. You can also create your own Blueprints for private use.

Horizontal Autoscale

With horizontal Autoscale, the number of servers increases automatically during demand spikes to maintain performance, and decreases automatically during lulls to minimize costs. This is often the best choice when workloads are expected to experience significant spikes that require bigger bursts than vertical Autoscale would be able to handle.

You have the ability to determine the minimum number of servers to remain on at all times, and the metrics (CPU and/or memory) and thresholds to determine when to scale out and scale in. You can also set threshold and cool down periods, to help prevent “rapid-fire” Autoscale events before the server has the chance to recognize the positive effects of an initial scale event.

Horizontal Autoscale automatically increases the number of cloud servers based on set policies

Vertical Autoscale automatically increases the compute capacity of cloud servers based on set policies

Vertical Autoscale

Vertical Autoscale automatically right-sizes the compute capacity of your servers in response to demand volatility. Improved performance for many workloads may be achieved simply by adding resources to existing servers without the need for deployment of additional servers. This is often the case if the workload is purely CPU-constrained and not I/O bound.

With vertical Autoscale, you can determine the minimum and maximum number of CPUs for the server, as well as the policies for thresholds and increments, which determines how many CPUs to add (1, 2, 4) during a scaling event. Similar to horizontal Autoscale, you can also set threshold and cool down periods, to help prevent “rapid-fire” Autoscale events.
